New 350-seat restaurant and bar the key to next stage of the revitalisation of The Wharf Mooloolaba

A new 500m2 restaurant and bar to be launched in time for Christmas signals the continuation of the revitalisation of The Wharf Mooloolaba precinct, according to Dirk Long, co-owner of Evans Long.

The Dock – At The Wharf – Mooloolaba will be a new restaurant and bar specialising in smoked meats, charcoal grill and quality beer.

“The new 350-seat venue is a key part of our plan to return The Wharf to the bustling recreation, dining and entertainment precinct that it was in its heyday,” Mr Long said.

“The Dock is going to be a really great new venue for the entire Sunshine Coast – for locals, families and, also for tourists.

“Mooloolaba used to have The Wharf as one of the great pinnacles and we want to see it back to being that,” Mr Long said.

Restaurateur, Jared Hart, who also owns Melbourne’s oldest pub, Captain Melville and Loch n Key Bar.

“I have family on the Sunshine Coast and I see huge potential here, particular for a venue like ours that can cater for large numbers in a relaxed family-friendly atmosphere, while showcasing the best quality food and beverages,” Jared said.

Mr Long said work had already begun on the $1.5million renovation of the space, with an initial six-week program to strip it out and get the base building up to spec.

“It was previously designed to look like a submarine so all of that has come out and already you can tell it’s going to look fantastic with the high ceilings and natural light.”

Jared said following the demolition and base works, construction of the space would start.

“We have worked really hard with Kristen Calle from Cab Roto to make the venue really special, with lots of natural light and textures while also taking advantage of the 250-degree river frontage, which you will be able to see from all parts of the venue,” Jared said.

“The space will feature a selection of different seating areas indoor and outdoor as well as three separate bars, and a great function space.

“We will be offering 16 different beers – the best from the region and around the country – on a total of 52 beer taps. We will also have local favourites like cider and ginger beer as well as an extensive wine and spirit selection.

“The food will be something special – we will be featuring smoked meats and chargrill with great offerings for breakfast, lunch and dinner or snacks to have with a drink, and of course there will be vegetarian options as well. There will be something for everyone,” Jared said.

“The Dock will also feature great local food and produce – we want to really showcase what the region has to offer as The Wharf will be a key precinct for tourists and visitors.”

Jared said The Dock was looking at being the link in the chain for The Wharf’s rejuvenation, to help make the place better and give everyone another precinct to come and enjoy.

The Dock aims to be open from early December and is now taking bookings for functions from December 8th.
